Hi! I'm Julie O'Hara. 

As a former freelance food writer and recipe developer for 9 hours, I thought I was knew a lot about nutrition and dietary restrictions.

But then 13 years ago, I was diagnosed with IBS. I was already a healthy eater, but that wasn’t enough. 

I tried everything from clean eating to acupuncture, but nothing helped my IBS until I learned about the FODMAP Diet 4 years ago.

If you haven’t heard of FODMAPs before, FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols.

In other words, certain sneaky carbohydrates and sugars found in otherwise healthy foods (think whole wheat bread, asparagus, and apples) trigger symptoms like bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation in people with IBS.

FODMAPs trigger IBS symptoms because they are not fully absorbed in the small intestine. Eventually they ferment, creating gas and causing those unpleasant symptoms above. By reducing FODMAP intake, many people find tremendous relief.

It was all so overwhelming, though, and I spent months making excuses not to get started. 

Over time, I learned to apply my in-depth knowledge about food to making the FODMAP diet work in my life and finally--after 13 long years of unpredictable IBS symptoms--feeling empowered over how my body feels.

For the last 3 years, I have been a health coach specializing in helping women with IBS to relieve embarrassing bloating and bowel irregularity and improve their digestive health.

Through my clients, I saw that there are some BIG myths and misconceptions about the FODMAP diet causing a lot of frustration and wasted time (especially when you’re just starting out)
